Feeling creative? In need of an idea to get you going, to try something new? What about photographing at night? Who has tried it?? I recently had the opportunity to participate in a little class where we got to play with different techniques of night photography. The last time I experimented with this was in college I believe, not sure why I haven’t played recently it is fun!
Have any of you tried photographing at night? What do you like / not like about it? I think everyone should go out and have some fun! Let us know what you tired, what you think and show us what you created!
Play with your settings, a higher ISO like 1600 (or higher if you’ve got a fancy camera) is great for situations where there is some light, it gives a great ambiance glow. I happen to looove using a high ISO, though it does result in more noise (not as crisp of a photo as you may like). If this is how you feel then stick to and ISO of 100 or 200 and play with that. This is when you will need a tripod, unless you can keep yourselves and the camera steady for 30 sec and more! If your camera has a ‘bulb’ setting and you do have a tripod what are you waiting for! 🙂 The bulb setting means that the shutter stays open for as long as you wish, by means of your finger on the shutter button, or if your really lucky, a shutter / quick release cord (cord that plugs into camera with button that serves as your shutter button – most likely comes with a locking shutter button so you don’t physically have to hold the button down for minutes at a time).
The of course there are the abstract images of night photography with basically no rules at all. Forget the use of a tripod, pop that flash, shoot into the light, move the camera in a circle while pressing the button, zoom in and out, have someone walk past . . . the possibilities are endless! What are you waiting for? Go out and play! Let’s see what you all come up with! Email me or post them and comment here with a link so we can see! 🙂 I will come back with some for you to see too. We’ll give it a few days, I’m anxious to see what is created!
